It was a very busy time for all of us - the teachers and the students preparing the visit in Poland.
The students were so excited when you were here! I could observe them behaving better than before the meeting:). After your leaving, last week, they kept me asking a lot of questions about the guests, for example: what happened to Dogan as he was wearing a plaster on his cheek. I took advantage of their curiosity and asked them to draw their impressions after the visit. See how they were working and their works are on the way, I sent them last week to you.
Thank you for being here with us!

Water research in Romania
This activity was due to determine the quality of four different water samples: 1-water impurified with small bits of acid substances, 2-rain water, 3-tap water, 4-water impurified with soap.
The 13 year old students determined the pH,
the quantity of dissolved oxygen, the presence of sulphate ions and chloride
ions.
Conclusions: The rain water and the tap
water have pH about 7, the water of sample 1 is acid and sample 2 is basic; The quantity of dissolved
oxygen is very small in all the samples, because they were not taken from a
lake or a river; All samples contain very
small quantities of sulphate and chloride ions except the rain water.
The evaluation test given by the chemistry
teacher Viorica Cortojan, showed that the students were interested in this
activity, they acquired new information and they would like to determine the
quality of water in the rivers passing by our city.
Romania:"The Water Basins in the seven WWW countries"
Three classes in our school (4A, 4C, 5B) have studied the waters of the countries that participate in the project. The teachers Marioara Lupu-Neicu and Georgiana Munteanu coordinated the students in collecting information from atlases, books and internet, organized the activities in which the students had the opportunity to present their work in front of their classmates; several students were helped by their parents to make models representing different water basins or famous buildings close to them (which you can see in the presentations below). Some water legends were told, a powerpoint presentation about the Danube and its Delta, talks about the social and economic importance of water as well as pollution and ways to reduce it, all these made our students more aware of the necessity to protect water. But pictures speak better than words:

Cyprus, Board Game
The students created a board game related to their geographical research. It was an exciting activity which the children enjoyed a lot.
The board game is a memory game that consists of 21 pairs of cards with the WikiWaterWorld's flags, longest rivers and largest lakes.
Wishing you a lot of fun! Enjoy playing it!

Turkey, Water Research
Our 8 grade students and Science teacher, Mr. Ali Baloğlu, did several experiments on the water samples from the Marmara Sea and the Thermal area. They researched the water samples after filtering and they tried to find the turbidity, pH degrees and dissolved oxygen degrees.

Romania - weather diary activity
After a
whole month – October – without any rain, we finally had a few showers on the
first days of November; the team of “experts” were happy to go out and measure
the quantity of rainwater gethered in the three special pots placed in the
school garden. The water has a yellowish colour because of the leaves fallen in
the pots.
Like
everyday, the students also checked the temperature shown by the big
thermometer attached to a bush branch at about 1 metre above the ground, as is
said to be the optimum position in such observations.

Finland: adding words to the dictionary
This week classes 6A and 6B started to work on the wiki dictionary. First we collected words that have to do with water sports and recreation in Finnish. Then we talked about using dictionaries on the whole and tried to find the English equivalents for our words. We also used an on-line dictionary. Finding the right word wasn't always very easy, because there are soooooooo many words in a dictionary.
The last task was to add the words in the dictionary.

Preparing for the visit in London
Before the visit in London the students of Zespół Szkół Uzdrowiskowych were very busy. They prepared the bookmarks for the British students and the older students with their educators - small glass paintings for our partner schools. They packed everything very carefully and said good bye to our mascot - Hadwalunia.
See some pictures.
